A Busy Week Coming Up! July 20th, 2013
Well the coming week is going to be a busy one at W&S as we have the Essex CW Group operating from our premises under the call GB100RSGB. This will take place on Wednesday and Thursday during the day and the evening. Operation will be predominantly on CW of course and they will operate 80m to 10m. There will be two stations active and they will each use the complete Elecraft K-line comprising K3 transceiver, KPA-500 linear amplifier and KAT-500 auto ATUs.
Then on the Sunday (28th) it is our Open Day. This one is a very special one as it celebrates 40 years of W&S. Not a bad record! There will be some fabulous prizes to be won as well as the usual discounts and bargains. And as always there is the free food and drinks. Just like last year we will be running some lecture streams and the whole event will be opened by the editor or Practical Wireless, G3XFD. From Friday (26th) until the Monday, we will be operating GB40WS.
All this activity has meant that we are having to look at antenna systems and so this coming Monday has been designated as “Antenna day.” We will be installing an 80ft tower that will be used to elevate the antennas and add some extra ones. We of course already have a 3 element beam on the roof and a Carolin Windom. We will be adding a vertical dipole for 10MHz and Justin, G0KSC, will be adding one of his triband despoles and installing a new 2m Yagi system. It is a lot of work but the weather looks good for the whole of the coming week.
We would encourage everybody to come and visit us during this coming week and help us celebrate this very special occasion. Peter G3OJV
